2023 round 2 Championship review

Championship Men

Pivot City 99 – 75 Surfcoasters

Our Pivot City Men have come away with a fantastic second-round win to go 2 from 2 to open the 2023 season. After demolishing the Tigers in round 1, including a 40-point haul for Max Kos, the men have backed it up with a gusty 24-point win.

Entering the game with only 5 available players, the team got off to a slow start trailing by 7 at the quarter-time break. Entering the second period the team picked up the slack to close the gap with some gritty defence and timely shot-making giving them an 11-point advantage while outscoring the Coasters 33-15.

With even scoring from the entire team so far, it was more of the same through the second half as the poise of the entire team made the Coasters pay for their mistakes as the Men pulled way to outscore their opponents by 12 in the final 10 to claim the 24-point victory.

It was an all-round performance from everyone with Tyler Erard and Max Kos both Contributing 24 and 22 respectively, while the team continued their hot shooting form from round 1, knocking in 15 triples.

Round 3 fixtures are not yet available, but the team is sure to look to continue their hot form and go 3-0 to open the season.

Championship Women

Pivot City 73 – 57 YMCA

After an extended off-season break coming into round 1 with a bye, our Championship Women have opened their campaign with a statement win over YMCA by 16 points.

Opening the first quarter the Women were hot early taking a 24-14 lead heading into the first break. Heading into the halftime break it was much of the same with the team piling on another 20-point quarter while holding the Y to just 13, giving them a 45-27 point lead with one half left to play.

Slowing down in the third the team kept an even pace that continued into the 4th quarter with the Pivot Women allowing YMCA to cut the lead by 2 over the 20 minutes, with no real opportunity presenting itself for the team to allow the lead to slip.

Coming away with 16 point win the team starts off their 2023 campaign where they left off the 2022 Winter season as they look to go back to back in 2023.

Eve Braslis was in mid-season form early as she poured in a game-high 20, while Vanessa Marsh chipped in with 11.

It looks to be another exciting year for our Championship teams in 2023, make sure to come down and check out Pivot’s best this year, one day it might be you running up and down in the club’s premier teams!
