Round 15 saw just our Men suit up and take the court this week as our Women enjoyed a much-deserved week off. With 3 rounds to play both our teams are locked into the top 4 and are looking to stay there. Check out how our Men went below!
Taking on the 10th place Lara Giants, Pivot started out of the blocks slow unable to take advantage of a Lara team who were missing league top scorer Jackson Bentley. Leading 18-11 at the quarter break coach Tim O’Leary had this to say:
“Tuesday’s game vs a depleted Lara team was a chance to get another W on the board with only 3 games to go. Unfortunately, no one told Lara they were short-handed, every time it looked like we were going to win by 30 plus Lara was able to apply score pressure.’’
Keeping tide with Pivot, Lara was able to scratch back 1 point to have the margin sitting at just 6 heading into halftime, 37-31. A chat with coach O’Leary breathed a bit of life into the Pivot offence as they were able to extend the lead into double digits outscoring the Giants by 4.
A tough night from the 3-point line saw a usually high-scoring Pivot only account for 7 makes from outside the arc.
Entering the fourth the Giants luckily began to run out of legs and scoring options, as Pivot were able to pull away for a much-needed 18-point victory.
‘’At the final siren saw us winning by 19 but it was a struggle offensively and if the lapses of concentration in defence continue we won’t be around for long once finals start, presuming we make finals.’’
Concerns from Coach O’Leary are clear and while the team have snuck away with some quality but scrappy wins, the run home against Christian College and Wildcats who are both sitting above them on the ladder, will test the team to see if they are worthy of title contenders this year.
James Till led the way for the team in the game with 21 while Max Kos was right behind him with 19. Cohen Blythe and AJ both were solid as well with 10.
The team will take on Christian College next week, with the winner claiming 2nd spot on the ladder.
