Round 14 Champ Review

Championship Women

Round 14 action of the Winter Championship saw both our Pivot teams take the court once again, with both looking for high-quality wins.

Our Women kicked things off with a dominant win over Christian College in a game that never looked very close.

‘The Pivot Champ side had a good win over Christian College. Taking a slight lead after the first break the girls stepped things up to get an easy win.’ Stated Coach Matthews.

Jumping out to a quick 25-15 lead in the first quarter, a quick tighten-up was all the team needed as by half they were in control leading 43-19.

‘Eve Braslis as usual had the scoring under control’ as she dominated her way to a 44-point outing, outscoring the opposition entirely by herself. She had great support from Paris Kevric who also chipped in 17.

Holding the Eagles to just 18 2nd half points, Pivot continued their domination to come away 52-point winners. Coach Matthews said that ‘overall the hard work defensively was spread amongst the team’ leading to the big win.

The team will enjoy the bye in round 15 before returning to action against the Surfcoasters in round 16.

Championship Men

Our Championship Men have come away with a quality win over rivals YMCA in round 14. Starting quick out of the gate Pivot created a 12-4 advantage before some hot shooting from the Y young guns were able to reduce the deficit to 2, 20-18 heading into the quarter-time break. Some more blunders in the second period saw the team in a 2-point deficit at halftime.

With coach Tim O’Leary saying ‘our defence in the first half lacked intensity in patches which led to very ordinary offence.

Hitting the second half the team found its rhythm on both ends of the court and was able to create an 11-point buffer, behind a 26-13 quarter. ‘Going into the 3rd down by 3, the team decided to play great defence and offence to outscore Y by double digits.’

With a physical final 10 minutes, Pivot held their composure to grab an important win, seeing them stick in 3rd place, just win behind the pack.

‘It is difficult to pick the best players, as all had an input to the win.’ Said O’Leary.

Max Kos and Jordan O’Leary top scored with 19 a piece while Aaron Ruiz contributed 14.

The team will look to next week where they will look to get another win against the Lara Giants at 8:15 on court 1, so why not get down and support the team!
