2023 Winter Championship round 9 review

Pivot City 103 – 98 YMCA

Our Pivot City Men have claimed their 9th win in a row after taking down rivals YMCA in the team’s closest game to date in the 2023 season.

Tussling back and forth throughout the game neither team was able to garner a significant lead with the final 3 minutes deciding the outcome of the match.

Knocking down 16 triples as a team the Men were dialled in from deep as Ethan Blythe was able to take over in the final quarter to help knock off YMCA.

With both teams short-handed and missing key players it was a good look into what could potentially be this season’s grand final match-up.

With the Men taking on CC Eagles next week and looking to go 10 from 10, a win would help extend their lead on the competition before facing the winless tigers prior to the team’s scheduled bye.

Max Kos led the way in this one with 27 while Ethan Blythe and Tyler Erard contributed well with 25 and 24 respectively. Marach Marach was also great for Pivot as he poured in an efficient 19 points.

Pivot City 72 – 71 YMCA

Our Women have come away with the tightest of wins in round 9, outlasting YMCA to claim their 7th win of the season and cement themselves in second place on the Championship ladder.

With no Eve Braslis in this one, it was Ella Tofaeono who shined on the night with a massive 38-point haul to lead the team to victory.

A close one throughout the team was able to hold on as the youth of Pivot City shone through to help back up Ella on the offensive end, while some great defense down the stretch was able to net them the crucial win.

The team will look to continue their winning ways when they face off against CC Eagles also next week.
