Round 14 Senior Review

Welcome to a revamped instalment of our Senior Review for Round 14, where we will take a look at how all 5 senior teams faired this week in Geelong United Competitions.

Championship Men

Looking to stay on top of the ladder in round 14, the shorthanded Pivot Men lined up against the young SG Kings at the Geelong Arena on Tuesday night. Coming out of the gates hot, the Men quickly got out to a 16 point lead behind the hot shooting of Max Kos.

Heading into the main break up 26, the Men kept on pushing to pull away for a 129-70 victory.

Max Kos was instrumental in the win recording 40 points for the second consecutive week in a row While Marach Marach (33), Evan Juros (29) & Oscar Leavold (27) had their own scoring frenzies leading the team to a season high in points.

The Men will take on Vytis in round 15 where they will look to extend their win streak and stay atop the ladder.

Championship Women

It was never going to be easy for the Women in round 14 as they went up against the veteran Sharks once again. Looking to bounce back from a tough loss early in the season, the team were able to keep pace through the first 20 minutes of play, trailing by just 15 at the main break.

Miley Dawkins was on fire in the first half as she poured in a team high 26. Newcomber Imogen Wardley was also great on the night draining 4 threes on her way to 14 points.

While it was not meant to be the team are still in finals contention and will look to take the points from YMCA who currently sit one spot above them on the ladder in the playoff picture.

Division 1 Men

Our Division 1 Men were able to get a quality win over CC Eagles who were sitting in 3rd place coming into the game. An important win for the Men sees them sit just 3 points back of 4th place as a finals berth.

Youngster Seb Kevric was great on the night pouring in a game high 27 points including 3 threes, while Richard Emma-Nnopu was great as well adding 18 of his own.

The team will look to make it two in a row against Sharks in round 15.

Division 1 Women

A tough outing for our division 1 Women saw them go down Wildcats 59-22. The 8-1 Wildcats are finals favourites as they sit atop of the ladder, while the Women sit 3rd in what is a 4 team competition.

Olivia Syers was the top scorer in this one leading the way with 10, the team will look to collect a win next week against bottom placed Sharks

Division 2 Women

Our Division 2 Women were also up against Wildcats in round 14, and while it was a closer game it was unfortunately the same result. Going down 28-43, the Women were unable to get going offensively against the 3rd placed Wildcats.

Sitting outside the finals picture looking in, it will be a tough ask for the team to crack into the top 4 with only a few rounds to play.

Laura Gumienik led the way with 10 for Pivot.
